A unique venue in Europe for tomorrow's young filmmakers.
Anchored in the Côte des Légendes region, since 2006 in Plounéour-Brignogan-Plages - Le Groupe Ouest supports the creation of fictional narratives in a spirit of European cooperation and anchorage in a rural and coastal region.
The only place of its kind in Europe dedicated to supporting writers in residence and script development, Le Groupe Ouest is a platform for applied research into storytelling. With over 50 films coached at Groupe Ouest selected for Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, Venice... and more than 220 filmmakers and screenwriters coached in residence each year, Le Groupe Ouest has become Europe's leading venue for coaching authors and screenwriters for cinema and series, and the French-speaking world's leading venue for professional training for filmmakers and screenwriters.
“With Le Groupe Ouest, we're part of a joyful ebullition driven by the vitality of a renewed generation of authors grappling with the world as it's becoming. By bringing them together, we are creating a unique richness and plurality - exciting and stimulating, in a porous relationship with the world and in a logic of permanent mutual aid.”
Antoine Le Bos - scriptwriter, founder & director of Groupe Ouest
“StoryTANK is an out-of-time, out-of-the-world place - but the better to return to it, to deploy ourselves within it - like a network of singular organisms, poetically and amicably linked to one another, a natural bridge between creative process and living process.” Aurélie Valat - scriptwriter & editorial director of StoryTANK Season 05 (coming soon)
Initiated by Groupe Ouest, and supported by the European Commission as part of Europe Creative, StoryTANK has become one of the pillars of LIM | Less is More - the 1st European program to explore and disseminate new approaches to screenwriting. Its ambition is to refine our understanding of what shapes stories, and how they contribute to weaving new links and changing the way we look at the world around us.
StoryTANK brings together a European coalition of authors, scriptwriters and filmmakers, all makers of fictional worlds, in close collaboration with invited researchers from all horizons & brought together to explore the involvement of the living, of our bodies, and of human societies with those who relate, content and construct today's narratives.
StoryTANK to open up new passages, question what we take for granted, and explore new working methods.
Every year, the StoryTANK stimulates fertile exchanges between two worlds: that of the makers of fictional stories (authors, scriptwriters, directors...) and that of research, with researchers covering all the fields connected to the notion of the human story: anthropology, ethnology, semiology, sociology, psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, cognitive science, as well as seemingly more distant disciplines such as mathematics, astrophysics, geography or architecture...
Conceived and built like a think tank - which grows richer season after season - StoryTANK creates the impetus for the development of innovative tools linked to fiction writing, which concern scriptwriters as much as professionals involved in the writing process (consultants, producers, broadcasters, platforms, publishers, game designers...). It's also a platform for reflection that's useful to everyone, for all the ecosystems that structure our lives: from education to business, from art to the environment, from health to justice... And all with a view to a common & sustainable future.
Each season forms an annual research laboratory that defines new angles of approach, through which the scriptwriter-witnesses feed & question their work as storymakers, while the researchers feed the scriptwriters through unprecedented transdisciplinary encounters.
Implemented over 5 days at the end of the year, StoryTANK then unfolds as part of a season to be found on the eponymous web platform & YouTube channel.
