New York - Paris
in progress

MarieVic was born in Paris and currently lives & works in New York. She graduated from the Special School of Architecture and received an MFA from Parsons The New School for Design.

MarieVic's work reflects on consumption as a mode of existence, by humorously questioning the fetishes and desires of commercial cultures. The medium used varies considerably throughout the projects — his workshop produces sculptures, photographs and videos. His work has been exhibited at Red Bull Arts (New York), Eyebeam (New York), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), MOCA (Toronto), MuCEM (Marseille), Stems Gallery (Brussels), Eigen+Art (Berlin), Magda Danysz Gallery (Paris).

As well as being featured in Nowness, Visionaire, iD, Vogue, W Magazine, Wallpaper and Vice. In 2015, she won an award for Blowing Riccardo at the Milan Fashion Film Festival. In 2018, she won the Lishui International Photography Biennale Prize for Uniclones. MarieVic is also the author of the project on the legendary architect François Roche: Who are you François Roche? which accompanied his retrospective.

End of 2023, MarieVic - in partnership with Stems Gallery - presents in Paris: the TOTEM exhibition, from November 25 to December 16. The corpus exhibited - a series of phallic sculptures - is a reflection on the phallus as a signifier and on the symbolic connections that it crystallizes. It’s also a way of making it your own.

With TOTEM, MarieVic aims to create a playful arrangement of phalli, a humorous critique of the consumerist destruction of the erotic and transgressive force of sexuality.

With Stranger Things - born out of ecological devastation - MarieVic depicts a reality in which there is no hierarchy between humans, non-humans and things, where instead all lives are intertwined and exist in a damaged but livable world. Set in one of the world's largest e-waste dumps, Agbogbloshie - a shantytown in Accra (Ghana) where obsolete computers and electronic technology are burned and torn apart for their mineral wealth. A video work in which small drones wander aimlessly through an alien landscape, the result of the West's obsession with consumption and obsolescence.

With Uniclones, MarieVic comments on our pastoral relationship with consumption. MarieVic illustrates her point by inviting cashmere goats from Mongolia to drape themselves in Uniqlo cashmere sweaters. Uniclones is a two-channel video that presents a binary vision of a pastoral landscape in which livestock roam freely. Goats, sheep, camels, reindeer and yaks behave like any other animals in a rural environment, except that they are dressed in Uniqlo products. Uniclones is an interrogation of the world of fashion through visual language, in which garments are decontextualized from the myth of their brand and reused to ironic, discordant effect.
